Explanation

In SAFe, Agile teams should make time for innovation continuously throughout the PI.

Innovation is a key part of the Agile mindset. Agile teams should be constantly looking for ways to improve their products and services, and to find new ways to meet the needs of their customers.

Teams must be made aware of the importance of being innovative throughout the IP and not just during the Innovation and Planning Iteration.

There are a number of ways that Agile teams can make time for innovation:

• Set aside time for innovation during each Iteration. This could be a specific time each day, or it could be a block of time at the end of the Iteration.

• Use the IP Iteration to focus on innovation. The IP Iteration is a unique Iteration that occurs every Planning Interval (PI) in SAFe. It is a time for teams to focus on innovation, planning, and other activities that are difficult to fit into a continuous, incremental value delivery pattern.

• Encourage team members to innovate on their own time. Agile teams should create an environment where team members feel safe to experiment and to try new things.
